GARDEN COMPETITION

As in the last two years, the Show Committee ran a Garden Competition in memory of Glen Holbrough of Ousefleet in the lead up to the Show. Glen's mother, Barbara,  designed the competition, obtained sponsorship for the Prize Money and donated the original cup. The entry fees are retained by Ousefleet Show.

This year, in response to comments received, there were three competitions available to anyone living in Swinefleet, Reedness, Little Reedness, Whitgift, Ousefleet, Adlingfleet, Fockerby, Garthorpe, Luddington and Eastoft.

There were 52 entries of an exceedingly high quality and they were judged by members of the Hall family (who have run California Garden Centre at Howden for over 100years) on Wednesday 12th August in good weather conditions. The results were as follows:

The original Glen Holbrough Memorial Cup, now awarded to the best front garden,
was won by Mrs Beevers of Eastoft, 2nd was last year's winner, Janette Campsall of Ousefleet, 3rd was Beryl Phillipson of Ousefleet.

The Glen Holbrough Memorial Shield (donated by the Ousefleet Show Committee) to be awarded to the best back was won by Mrs Wallbank of Fockerby, 2nd was Mrs Beevers of Eastoft, 3rd was Mr/s Proctor of Reedness

The Glen Holbrough Memorial Rose Bowl (donated by Barbara and John King) to be won by the best collection of hanging baskets and planters was won by Mr I Cox of Swinefleet, 2nd was Mrs M Aldam of Swinefleet, 3rd was Mr T Jones of Reedness.

In a departure from previous years, the judges were so impressed by the design features in the garden of Ellen Driffill of Gardenwise, that they donated a special £10 voucher to be presented to her.

All these prizes were announced at the end of Ousefleet Show and most of the winners were on hand to collect them.
