THIS YEAR'S SHOW

This year's Show will be held on 14th August 2010 at its usual venue, Ousefleet Community Centre field and is being opened by the popular Rev Ken Sargeantson.

There will be the same large marquee which was used last year and there will be a new feature, a central Arena which will be the focal point of all outside activities. Apart from disabled badge holders, there will be no cars allowed on the show field, but, by kind permission of Co-Op Farms, Goole Estate (and the weather), off road parking will be available in the field opposite the entrance and car owners will be able to park there at their own risk.

In the marquee, there will be the Handicraft and Horticultural sections with a number of new classes and a new "General" section. This new section will contain separate classes for hen, duck and geese eggs, home made wine, jams, lemon curd, honey and chutney. The men's section is extended to include a woodwork class, as well as for bread, pie and Victoria sponge baking with bread baking being added to the Ladies Section along with Victoria sponge, shortbread, toffee and fudge making. Class details are on this web site.

The Friday night entry option last year was very well supported and eased the Saturday scramble, so the hours are being extended to operate from 6.00pm to 8.00pm and the Saturday hours reduced to 8.00am to 10.00am in order to make sure that judging can commence on time at 11.00am prompt.

In an attempt to encourage some new exhibitors and more entries, the committee are inviting all comers to enter, with the local villages' restriction being lifted for this year as an experiment.

Already confirmed as appearing are the Bygone Bykes with their vintage bicycles(visit http://homepages.tesco.net/~D.A.Y/bygones.html), Brian Leighton Garages who will be showing off three of their vehicles(visit them at www.blg.uk.com) and Lowfield Transport with their lorry competition and the Fire Service will display one of their tenders again, emergencies permitting.

The Arena will be the venue for the Fancy Dress Parade and children's races with displays from the Batons of Steel Majorette Troupe(visit them at www.batonsofsteel.com), Minster Falconry with their Birds of Prey and Bygone Bykes. The afternoon will end with the tug of war competition.

Much work has been done to extend and improve the entertainment for children which this year is being headed by "Nutty Norman". Norman will give his magic show, do balloon modelling and do a Punch and Judy show.

The children's fancy dress will be a Green theme with only recycled materials being allowed, the sort of stuff you put in your blue wheelie bin. This year's competition is being sponsored by Melanie, Simon and Ridley GolbyThomson.

A new competition for this year will be for the best Seated Scarecrow.

A raffle is being held in conjunction with the Show and will be drawn at the end of the afternoon. Top prize is a flat screen TV with entry to "The Deep", a meal for 2 at the Half Moon plus other very desirable prizes. Tickets are on sale now at £1 per strip of 5. Contact Margaret Gunson on 01405 704615, John King on 01405 704350 or Helen Rudd on 01405 704000.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

This year the Committee have really gone to town by securing the World's best John Prescott"Tom Jones" tribute act to headline the night's entertainment. "Tom" (aka John Prescott, no!- not him!!) has appeared many times on TV and receives rave reviews wherever he appears. This is a real one off for villagers to enjoy and we are hoping for a full house. There will be barbeque style food available, a well-stocked bar with keenly priced drinks and an all age disco to fill in between "Tom's" slots. Entry is a ridiculously cheap £3 for adults and just £1 for children under 16. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
